The first of the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament (Exodus, chapter 20, verse 3) says: “You shall have no other gods before Me”.That has always been the most important law in the Abrahamic religions. Similarly, Quran insists on the fact that there is only One God, Allah (that the Hebrews name Yahweh, and the Christians God the Father). He is One and the Same, despite the different names. It is crucial for believers to understand the concepts and meanings of words such as worship, and “gods”, as they are meant by Allah, and what he is telling us when He says “Allah alone”. It is His view that counts, as we will be judged by Him.
The word “alone” (wahadahou, in Arabic) occurs six times in Quran. Five of them speak of Allah alone:
- 7:70. “Did you come to us to make us worship Allah only, and leave what our parents used to worship?”,
- 39:45. And if Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter recoil in aversion.”,
- 40:12. That is because if Allah only is mentioned, you disbelieved…”,
- 40:84. When they saw Our “punishment”, they said ‘we believed in Allah alone'”, and
- 60:4. …Enmity and antipathy will always come between us and you, until you believe in Allah alone”
If we add the suras and verse numbers together, we get:
7 + 70 + 39 + 45 +40 + 12 + 84 + 60 + 4 = 361, or 19 x 19.
The 6th occurrence of the word “alone” is in verse 17:46: “And if you mention Allah in Quran alone, then they turn back…”. This “alone” is specific to Quran.
The 19 x 19 factor is a strong indication that the message that Allah sent down to us is to worship Him alone, to have no “gods” other than Him, and that our faith comes from Quran alone. We will see in another post what Allah means by “other gods”.

Les Deux Thèmes Principaux du Coran
Le premier des Dix Commandements dans l’Ancien Testament (Exode, chapite 20, verset 3) dit: “Vous n’aurez point d’autres dieux que Moi” (my translation). Cela a toujours été le thème le plus important dans la Loi des religions Abrahamiques. De la même manière, le Coran insiste sur le fait qu’il y’a un Seul Dieu, Allah (que les Hébreux appellent Jéhovah, et les Chrétiens appellent Dieu le Père). C’est la même entité, malgré les noms differents. Il est d’une importance cruciale que les croyants comprennent les concepts et les sens de mots tels que adoration, et “dieux”, de la façon qu’Allah leur a donnés, et ce qu’Il veut qu’on saisisse quand Il nous dit “Allah seul”. C’est Son point de vue qui compte, car nous serons jugés par Lui.
Le mot “Seul” (wahdahou, en Arabe) revient six fois dans le Coran. Cinq d’entre eux réefèrent à “Allah Seul”:
- 7:70. “Es-tu venu à nous pour que nous adorions Allah seul, et laisser ce que nos parents adoraient?”
- 39:45. “Quand Allah seul est mentionné, les coeurs de ceux qui ne croient pas en l’au-delà s’insurgent…”
- 40:12.”Cela esr parce que si Allah seul est mentionné, vous mécroyez…”
- 40:84.”Quand ils virent notre châtiment, ils dirent “nous croyons en Allah seul…”
- 60:4. “…l’animosité et l’antipathie seront toujours entre nous et vous jusau’a ce que vous croyez en Allah seul…”
Si on ajoute ensemble les numéros des chapitres et des versets, on obtient:
7 + 70 + 39 + 45 + 40 + 12 + 84 + 60 + 4 = 361, ou 19 x 19.

L’élément 19 x 19 est une forte indication que le message qu’Allah nous a envoyé est d’adorer seulement Lui, de ne pas avoir de dieux autres que Lui, et que notre foi est basée seulement sur le Coran. Nous verrons dans un autre article ce qu’Allah veut dire par d’ “autres dieux”.
