Despite Allah indicating that His word is the sole source of the faith, most of the religious information the Moslems get, and use, originate outside of Quran. Al-Ghazali, one of the most important philosophers and scholars of Islam (died 505 hijri/ 1111 A.D.), said about the Moslems of his time: “The Moslems have deserted (left) Quran for the “hadith”, then left the “hadith” for the “sayings” of the “imams”, then they left the sayings of the imams for the ways of the “imitators”, then they left the ways of the imitators and their Puritanism for the “ignorant” and their fumbling…”.
Thus, according to Al-Ghazali, we are a far cry from Allah’s injunction of following Quran alone. If we can recall, that is not far from the time when Islam started getting on a declining slope. That is in agreement with what Allah is telling us in verse 25:30, about the gay of Judgement: “The day when the messenger will say ‘my Lord, my people have deserted this Quran'”.
And indeed, we did desert Quran. The Divine Scripture faces a stiff competition from all the sources that Al-Ghazali mentioned, but we can add to those the rules we borrowed from other religions, such as stoning the woman adulterer to death (why the male is spared is beyond comprehension, as if the woman was the only participant in the act of adultery) when Quran prescribes a different punishment (24:2), and the strong contribution of tradition. Whoever thinks that he or she is following Quran, could benefit bu going back to the word of Allah, the real and only trustworthy yardstick for religious rules, and compare his/her beliefs with what Allah says.
What we ended up with, as Moslems, are different sources of religious information: one coming from Allah, with its own provable evidence, and all the rest coming from human beings, with all the errors and doubt that could involve, whether coming from their origin, or transmission, or interpretation. Can they compare? Absolutely not! And we will see why.

Les Sources Autres que le Coran, sont-elles valides?
En dépit du fait qu’ Allah indique que Sa parole est la seule source de la foi, la majorité de l’ information que les Musulmans reçoivent, et utilisent, vient d’ en-dehors du Coran. Al-Ghazali, l’ un des plus importants philosophes et theologiens de l’ Islam (décédé en 505 hijri/1111 E.C.) a dit au sujet des Musulmans de son temps: “Les Musulmans ont deserté le Coran pour le “hadith”, puis ils ont deserté le “hadith” pour les propos des “imams”, puis ils ont deserté les propos des “imams” pour les voies des “imitateurs”, puis ils ont deserté les voies des “imitateurs” et leur Puritanisme pour les ignorants et leur débattements…”.
Donc, d’ après Al-Ghazali, nous sommes bien loin du commandement d’ Allah de suivre le Coran seulement. Si on peut se rappeler, sa période n’ est pas trop éloignée du temps où l’ Islam a commencàe a être sur une pente déclinante. Cela est en agrément avec ce qu’ Allah nous dit au verset 25:30, au sujet du Jour du Jugement dernier: “Le jour où le messager dira ‘mon Seigneur, mon peuple a déserté ce Coran”‘.
Et vraiement, nous avons déserté le Coran. L’ Écriture Divine subit une forte compétition de la part de toutes les sources qu’ Al-Ghazali a mentionnées, mais on peut ajouter à celles-là les règles que nous avons empruntées aux autres religions, telle que tuer la femme adultère a coups de pierres (pourquoi le male est épargné est incompréhensible, comme si la femme était la seule participante dans la commission de l’ acte d’ adultère) quand le Coran prescrit un châtiment différent (24:2). Ceux qui pensent qu’ils sont entrain de suivre le Coran pourraient bénéficier par un retour à la parole d’ Allah, le vrai et seul critère et mesure pour les règles religieuses, et comparer leurs croyances avec ce qu’ Allah nous dit.
Ce que nous avons fini par avoir, en tant que Musulmans, sont différentes sources d’ information et de lois religieuses: une venant d’ Allah, avec sa propre évidence qui peut être prouvée, et tout le reste venant d’ êtres humains, avec toutes les erreurs et doutes que cela peut impliquer, venant soit de leur origine, leur transmission, ou leur interprétation. Est-ce que ces sources peuvent être comparables? Certainement pas! et nous verrons pourquoi.
